As a business attorney, Matt has dedicated his practice to helping businesses and business owners through all phases of the business life cycle. Matt prides himself in getting the job done right and in a way that’s best suited for the client. With a background in business finance and a focus on corporate and business law, Matt has the ability to provide practical solutions to resolve complex business matters.

Matt has focused a large part of his practice in insurance agent and broker transactions, including advising agencies and their principals in buy- and sell-side transactions, smaller account acquisitions, producer hiring and perpetuation planning. His industry experience includes representing insurance clients in over $100 million in acquisition and sale transactions.

Prior to starting Penwell Bowman + Curran, Matt was a business attorney with a regional firm in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania where he counseled business clients of all types and sizes. In addition to his insurance practice, Matt has extensive experience in:

Matt has always had a fascination with the entrepreneurial spirit. A lifelong competitor and athlete, Matt attended The Ohio State University on a baseball scholarship where he studied business finance. It was at Ohio State where Matt was introduced to the area of business law, and knew he had found his calling. From there, he returned to his hometown of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, and attended Widener University Commonwealth Law School where he continued to develop his new found passion for business law.

Matt graduated from law school at the top of his class, summa cum laude, and was awarded the Dean’s Award for demonstrating outstanding legal aptitude. As a law student, Matt was a senior editor of the Widener Law Journal, an Academic Support Fellow mentoring first year law students and a research assistant for various professors. Matt was awarded seven Certificates of Achievement and also served as a judicial extern for the Honorable P. Kevin Brobson, Judge of the Commonwealth Court of Pennsylvania.

Matt has a mild obsession with fly fishing and in his spare time enjoys craft beer, playing guitar and spending time with his wife, Kelly, and daughter, Poppy, in the great outdoors.
